GOMSU Students Council notice to freshers on hostel scam

The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of Gombe State University has raised an alarm over a fraudulent scheme targeting students, especially freshers, by an individual posing as an agent for hostel allocation.

In a statement released by the SRC, it was disclosed that an unknown person has been contacting students via phone calls, demanding money under the false pretence that he can allocate hostel accommodation. The suspect further claims to be working in collaboration with the university’s ICT unit to lend credibility to the scam.

The SRC, acting in consultation with the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, has clarified that no individual has been authorized to sell or allocate hostel spaces unofficially. All hostel allocations and payments are processed exclusively through the official university portal via the student dashboard.

Students have been strongly advised not to make payments to any person promising hostel accommodation outside the official process. Any such request, especially those involving personal accounts or unofficial channels, should be treated as fraudulent.

Authorities are urging students who have received such calls or fallen victim to the scam to report immediately with any relevant information, including phone numbers, to assist in investigation and action.

The SRC calls on all students to remain vigilant and rely only on official university communication channels for accurate information.
