The Management of Bayero University Kano has reiterated its ban on the rearing of domestic animals within its campuses, warning residents to strictly comply with existing regulations.
In a special bulletin released on Tuesday, the university reminded residents of Staff Quarters across the Old and New Campuses, including Zoo Road Staff Quarters and the School of Continuing Education, that keeping animals within university premises is prohibited. The directive aligns with provisions outlined in the Revised Guidelines for Staff Housing Allocation and Maintenance.
According to the notice, residents permitted to keep a minimal number of domestic animals must ensure such animals are properly confined and prevented from straying into the campus environment. The management emphasized that allowing animals to roam freely constitutes a violation of university regulations and poses environmental, health, and safety risks.
The bulletin further announced that the university’s Security Division will immediately begin the arrest and impoundment of stray animals found within campus premises. Owners of such animals will be identified and held accountable in accordance with existing rules.
The institution warned that defaulters will face sanctions as stipulated in the Staff Quarters Residency Guidelines. Management reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining order, hygiene, and the integrity of the campus environment.
Residents have been urged to fully comply with the directive in the collective interest of the university community.
