FUTMINNA SUG announces approved fares for campus bike operations

The Student Union wishes to formally update the entire student body on the recent developments concerning bike (okada) operations within the campus.

Following our earlier press release announcing the suspension of bike activities, further engagements were initiated to ensure a peaceful and lasting resolution. Subsequently, a joint meeting was convened involving the Student Union Government, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, the Commercial Committee, the Bike Men Association, and the Security Unit. The meeting was held to adopt a diplomatic and dialogue-based approach in addressing the concerns raised by students.

FUTMINNA SUG announces approved fares for campus bike operations

After extensive deliberations and careful consideration of students’ safety, welfare, and security, the following resolutions were reached and have been approved for immediate implementation:

· Bikes are now strictly limited to one passenger per ride. The practice of carrying two passengers on a single bike is no longer permitted. This measure was adopted to enhance safety on campus roads, reduce the risk of accidents caused by overloading, discourage reckless riding, and improve monitoring and general security within the school environment.

· A standardized fare structure has been agreed upon to ensure fairness and prevent exploitation. The approved fares are as follows:

· School Gate to any Faculty (including SIT): ₦200 per person

· School Gate to Hostel: ₦300 per person

· Hostel to any Faculty: ₦200 per person

These rates are binding on all bike operators within the campus.

Students are hereby advised to take note of these approved prices. Any rider who violates the one-passenger policy, charges above the agreed fare, or fails to comply with these resolutions should be reported immediately.

Students who observe any price hike, misconduct, or violation are encouraged to promptly contact the Director of Welfare or any member of the SUG Executive Council for appropriate action.

The Student Union Government remains committed to protecting the interests of all students through dialogue, diplomacy, and firm enforcement where necessary. However, effective implementation requires the cooperation and vigilance of the entire student body.

We therefore urge all students to support these efforts as we work collectively to maintain safety, order, and fairness on our campus.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.
