The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered 2,658 illegal admissions conducted during the 2024/2025 academic session across several tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
According to an institutional analysis obtained on Friday in Abuja, the flagged admissions were traced to 17 universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University — 1,847 cases
Osun State University — 492 cases
Abubakar Tafari Ali Polytechnic — 148 cases
Federal College of Animal and Health Production — 66 cases.
University of Calabar — 28 cases
College of Education, Oro — 12 cases
Michael & Cecilia Ibru University — 12 cases
Redeemer’s University — 5 cases
Pan-Atlantic University — 5 cases
Nigerian Army College of Education — 2 cases
Kwara State Polytechnic — 1 case
Best Solution Polytechnic — 1 case.
JAMB noted that the admissions were carried out outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) — a direct violation of established guidelines.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during the 2025 policy meeting, warned that severe sanctions — including withdrawal of assets and disciplinary action against officials — will be applied to any institution involved in illegal admission racketeering.
Introduced in 2017, the CAPS platform ensures transparency, merit, and fairness in the admission process.
JAMB also cautioned that students who accept admissions outside CAPS risk being ineligible for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
