UNN SUG announces cancellation of Illegal Fee for Medical Students

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC), has officially announced the withdrawal of the controversial Biochemistry course registration fee previously demanded from 200 and 300-level students in the College of Medicine.

In a circular signed by the SUG President, Comr. Kelvin Onah M; the Secretary General, Comr. Okolo Bethel; and His Excellency, Comr. Jumbo Princess Somezikam, the union confirmed that after a thorough review of the payment structure, it was discovered that the fee was already embedded in the approved tuition.

Following a meeting with the Department of Biochemistry to address the issue, the department has been formally informed of the redundancy of the separate charge.

“Students are no longer required to make any separate payment for Biochemistry Registration except the N5,000 for the Biochemistry Manual,” the statement read.

The SUG assured students who had already made the payment that they would be duly refunded, with further details on the refund process to be communicated in due course.

The development is being hailed as a major victory for student advocacy in the institution.
